3-Day Queen Elizabeth National Park Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe & Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Arrival in Entebbe: Arrive at Entebbe International Airport. If you arrive early, you may take a domestic flight to Kihihi or Kasese, or you can embark on a scenic road trip. Transfer to Queen Elizabeth: From Entebbe, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, which takes around 6-7 hours by road. The drive will take you through Uganda’s countryside, passing traditional villages, rolling hills, and scenic landscapes. Alternatively, if you fly into Kasese, the drive to the park is much shorter (about 1-1.5 hours). Overnight in Queen Elizabeth: Arrive at your accommodation within or near the park. Popular options include Mweya Safari Lodge, Ishasha Wilderness Camp, or Kyambura Gorge Lodge, all offering comfort and stunning views of the park’s wildlife and landscapes.
Day 2: Wildlife Safari & Boat Cruise on Kazinga Channel
Early Morning Game Drive: Start your day with a morning game drive in the park. Queen Elizabeth is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffalo, Uganda kob, and leopards. The best time to see wildlife is early in the morning when animals are most active. The park is divided into different sectors (Mweya, Ishasha, and Kyambura). If you’re lucky, you can spot the famous tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector or the abundant wildlife in the Mweya sector. Boat Safari on Kazinga Channel: After the game drive, head to the Kazinga Channel for a boat safari. This natural waterway connects Lake Edward and Lake George and is a haven for wildlife. During the boat ride, you’ll likely see large numbers of hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species, such as flamingos, pelicans, and kingfishers. The boat ride lasts about 2-3 hours and is one of the most rewarding experiences in the park. Lunch & Relax: After the boat ride, return to your lodge for lunch. Spend the afternoon at leisure, either relaxing or enjoying additional lodge amenities like a pool or spa. Optional Afternoon Activity: Depending on your interests, you could take a nature walk in Kyambura Gorge to see primates like chimpanzees, or visit a local village for cultural experiences. Evening Game Drive or Sundowner: Head out for an evening game drive or enjoy a sundowner at a scenic viewpoint to wrap up the day with spectacular views of the park.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kyambura Gorge & Return to Entebbe
Explore Bwindi or Alternative Activities Morning Nature Walk: After the excitement of the previous day, enjoy a more relaxed morning with a nature walk through the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The forest is also home to numerous birds, primates, and other wildlife. Optional Activities: Visit the local communities to learn more about the culture and traditions of the people around Bwindi. Take a scenic flight back to Entebbe if you have a flight to catch. Visit Lake Bunyonyi for a peaceful boat ride and to explore the area. Transfer to Entebbe: In the afternoon or evening, begin your drive back to Entebbe for your onward flight, depending on your flight time. Additional Notes Gorilla Permit: You must secure a gorilla trekking permit in advance. These can be quite limited, so book early (around $700- $1,500 USD per permit). Packing Essentials: Wear sturdy hiking boots, long sleeves, and pants (for protection against thorns). Bring a waterproof jacket, a hat, gloves, and a camera (without flash). Best Time for Trekking: The dry season (June to September and December to February) is ideal for trekking. However, Uganda’s weather can be unpredictable, so prepare for rain. This 3-day itinerary is packed but offers an unforgettable experience of trekking in the jungle to see the endangered mountain gorillas and immerse yourself in Uganda’s beauty.
